How can we connect in systems that deny our humanity?
Set in a digital work portal, a long-term care home, and a small urban park in Montreal, Another Word For Care weaves the stories of Andrea, a Quality Assurance employee at Biosphere Health and Technologies Solutions, Jill, an embodiment-seeking AI companion robot designed to reduce depression in long-term care home patients, Deeliah, an elderly patient with dementia, and The Rabbit, a dancer and animal seeking rest and pleasure in a park, into an poetic, multimedia and interdisciplinary tapestry that explores capitalism and patriarchy’s impact on women’s bodies and on the epidemic of scarcity around care offered to the elderly in Canadian healthcare systems.
Another Word for Care explores subjects of: the ethics of AI technologies in healthcare and capitalism’s impact on mental health and climate justice. The work interrogates systems that dispose of bodies that can no longer reproduce or produce at the breakneck pace that society demands.
